The Pencil

This story follows Ji-woo, a college student, and her childhood friend Jae-pil, who has always been a source of confusion for her. Ji-woo struggles to understand Jae-pil’s behavior, particularly his displeasure whenever she wears sleeveless clothes for working out. It feels as if Jae-pil is overly controlling of her appearance, or even teasing her, but Ji-woo doesn’t believe that Jae-pil has any romantic interest in her. She sees him as a strong, distant figure and doesn’t think much of his actions, dismissing any deeper feelings.

However, things take a turn at a drinking party when Ji-woo, feeling indifferent and disconnected from the scene, is picked up by Jae-pil, who, with a grim expression, displays a rare and unexpected charm in front of their classmates. They then leave the noisy downtown area for some time alone together. It is during this private moment that Ji-woo asks a simple, yet deeply significant, question that shakes Jae-pil’s emotions. This question sparks a long-buried confession and marks the beginning of a passionate and long-awaited love story between them, which has been unrequited for over ten years.
